Steampunk Webcomics

Posted by Lee Ann Farruga on June 19, 2010 at 9:37 AM

Webcomics have been around for quite some time.  In the last few years there has been an incredible growth in steampunk webcomics.

Of course the most well known would be Girl Genius.

Girl Genius

A few others that are quite good, but not as well known:

A Copper Age

Clockworks

The Continentals

Monster Commute

One that a member of Steampunk Ottawa brought to the group's attention is a new form of webcomic with motion and sound.  It is an intriguing concept and the artwork is beautiful.

The Boy with Nails for Eyes

A Canadian web comic "Hark, a vagrant" is by Kate Beaton.  Unlike the others, it is not a continuous storyline, but in a short comic strip form. Also, while many of her strips are steampunk or Victorian, not all of them are.

Hark, a vagrant

Other than Miss Beaton's, I cannot find any other Canadian steampunk webcomics.  If anyone knows of other Canadian steampunk webcomics please do share.  Help support our home grown talent.

Thanks for the shout out about "The Continentals". Much appreciated. :)

Just to mention it, Monique MacNaughton, artist of "The Continentals", is a proud Canadian.

I work 12hr shifts at a fairly mundane job. When I discovered GirlGenius, I was in heaven. Thanks so much for recommending the others.

This has a Steampunk feel and the illustrations are wonderful, tho' the story is a little on the 'saucy' side.

Thank you for including Monster Commute. I'd describe ours as a steampunk urban fantasy, if I had to.

But I won't do that.

Really enjoyed, Copper Age... The art work reminds me a little of an English Illustrator from the 80's called Patrick Woodroffe.

"2D Goggles" by Sydney Padua

Ada Lovelace and Charles Babbage as Victorian era crime fighters (with occasional help from Isambard Kingdom Brunel).
