Review - Eli August

Posted by Lee Ann Farruga on December 19, 2010 at 9:06 AM

When I received Eli August's newest album "Let This House Burn Slowly" I knew very little about the man or his music.  I had heard a song or two in the past and thought they were fine, but I never looked any further.

The cd cover itself for "Let This House Burn Slowly" is a perfect introduction for the music to be found within - introspective, earthy, dark and gritty.  This is an album of every man music.

You can feel the emotion in the music, through the instruments and Eli's voice.  It sounds like he has travelled through hell and is struggling to pull himself out again.

The songs are well placed and they flow gently from one to the next, and from pure, dark depression and heartbreak to acceptance and growth and lessons learned.  It certainly does not end on a high note, but it does leave you with a strange sense of peace.

It's the kind of album you want to listen to while sitting by a fire with a nice glass of port (or something stronger) in your hand and your best dog by your feet while the music and it's story flows through you.
