Earlier this week, Parks Canada researchers found the lost HMS Investigator in Mercury Bay (the Arctic). The HMS Investigator was abandoned in 1853 (her second trip through the Northwest Passge), when it became ice-locked while searching for the Franklin expedition ships who disappeared in 1845. The Investigator was last seen in 1854, before being swallowed by the sea. The ship is well preserved, and is currently be surveyed, and the surrounding area explored (the researcher found 3 graves holding crewmen who died from scurvy).
