In another forum that I belong to, somebody posted a link to Shorpy This site is fascinating. Lots of old photographs scanned at a decent resolution. While some of the photographs are from the 1940s, there are a fair few from the early 1900s, and some as far back as the mid 1800s. Want to see what tourists to New York City were wearing in 1904? Circa 1904. "Seeing New York." Electric omnibuses at the Flatiron Building. 8x10 inch dry plate glass negative, Detroit Publishing Company. How about shots of a 1910 Airship or a 1908 Dirigible? Oct. 15, 1910. "Wellman airship seen from Trent." Walter Wellman's hydrogen dirigible America just before being abandoned by its crew near Bermuda, 1,370 miles into an attempt to cross the Atlantic from New Jersey. Its engines having failed, the America drifted out of sight, never to be seen again. "Dirigible Balloon of Baron deMarcay," circa 1908. I wasted quite a few hours on the site today. | |
