I watch Discovery Channel online mostly because we don't have cable or satellite. I'm pretty sure that the series this clip comes from is an online special only (Discovery does that sometimes). In this particular episode, they talk about a steam-powered press capable of over 8000lbs of force; it's used to form aluminum into aircraft propellors. They even go into how the machine works; someone with access to a small metal lathe and more mechanical magic than myself could potentially build a small scale one... Just food for thought Anyways, I thought it was an interesting example of how powerful and useful steam can be. Enjoy!

Amelia, until the automobile came around, steam was the means of locomotion. Be it paddlewheelers or trains, steam got you where you were going. It's still the major source of electricity today (coal-fired power plants produce steam that move turbines that generate electricity). Steam rocks...and rolls.
