What is your favourite thing about steampunk?

The fact that you can forge a completely shared world, and leave today's politics out of it.

What is your favourite thing about steampunk?

Steampunk for me is a combination of the imagination and travel of the mind, to best way I could describe steampunk I guess you have to be ready to live and create visions in time and dimensions showing the workings around our day to day life and what it takes to put things in motion combining movement, action, physics and an overall feel for the genre. It’s not just the look but the experience!

About Me

Retired teacher due to young onset Parkinson's Disease.....found Steampunk quite by chance, and because I already believed in repurposing, felt it was something I could connect with.  I opened my Etsy shop, SteampunkeryCo, and have a blog detailing specific pieces and the thinking behind them.  I try to keep my prices low enough to just cover my costs....enough to allow me to continue to create.  I continue to explore Steampunk, and have my partner in life, Frank, also feeling Steampunk Fever, and is very much into repurpose lighting.  This will be a new addition to the Etsy shop.  Visit us, SteampumkeryCo.com

What is your favourite thing about steampunk?

Repurposing and reimagining......and Victorian inspiration.  It combines all my loves, antiquity, crafting, and reimagining.  It inspired me to open my first business....SteampunkeryCo Etsy shop.  I would love to attend a Steampunk event, so I looked up Steampunk Canada....thank you for the add.:)

About Me

I'm a budding steampunk aficionado/general nerd. I'm in Calgary where I work as a freelance writer. I'm just hoping to connect to fellow lovers of all things steampunky, nerdy, geeky and mechanical!

What is your favourite thing about steampunk?

Well this is a list of thing(s) but it works! There's a sense of adventure and energy that permeates the best parts of the concept. There's the undeniable allure of beautifully made, creatively engineered objects and machines. There is also the idea of being free to adapt and create ingenious solutions to problems. There is something of the old swashbuckling, blood and thunder stories of the Victorian era in steampunk that tickles my fancy! I am also drawn to the idea of creating alternative histories and worlds in which the engineering of the steam age and the spirit of change and progress (as well as its darker side) can be explored.

About Me

Hi there,

I am a musician, composer and graphic artist hailing from Montreal, Qc. I got into steampunk in 1983 when it wasn't even called steampunk. I read the Michael Moorcock 'Nomad of the time streams' trilogy and fell in love with the visions those books put in my head.

The visual esthetics of the classic horror films produced by Hammer House and American International have made me a fan of Victoriana. Mix in a healthy dose of Science Fiction and fantasy, and you have a fan of Steampunk.

What is your favourite thing about steampunk?

Re-invention. I love to create sounds that retain an organic quality while sounding a little mechanical.

Imagine a one-person band or the ancestor of DJ's back in 1892. Surrounded by Tesla coils and boilers and furnaces. Pulling levers and pushing on pedals to activate the instruments that are going slightly in and out of tune while a band of automatons shovel coal in those furnaces and change the perforated cards in some sort of sequencer to bring the virtual orchestra back in tune and the songs to a harmonious conclusion.

To get an idea of those sounds, check out this little collection of tunes that i concocted.
