With elements of “Alice in Wonderland”, “the Wizard of Oz” and “Doctor Who” wrapped in a “Steam Punk” motif; Veronica Allenger and Matt Ficner came up with the idea for a “Whimsical Wedding Tea Party”

The majority of the elements for this wedding were all hand made by the couple. Veronica has an affinity to scrapbooking and crafting and Matt is a professional puppeteer, prop builder and production designer. With their combined skills, they created an exceptionally unique wedding event.

Veronica found the beginnings of her tea party dress at:
With Matt’s costume building skills, they embellished and personalized her perfect gown.

Veronica and Matt also had one-of-a-kind jewelry provided by the couple’s mutual friend Robyn at

Having collected elements of costumes for years working in film and TV, Matt had most of his outfit together. One thing that was needed was a Victorian vest and it was found at

The couple wanted additional embellishments to add to the whimsy of their wedding venue and their photos. Matt used his prop making skills to make Steam Punk style lanterns, ray guns and even the bride’s bouquet out of discarded chandeliers and brass works.

“From This Day Forward” was the perfect venue in Ottawa for the special day. It’s an elegant and intimate venue that is ideal for smaller weddings. It’s also located very close to beautiful locations in downtown Ottawa. This allowed the photographer Mark Cooper to take the couple to the nearby Museum of Nature for a dynamic photo shoot.

Excited and thrilled with the new chapter commencing in their lives, Matt and Veronica had a wonderful time playing in front of the camera.

The afternoon wedding tea ceremony was something to behold. Officiated by Samantha Evans from All Seasons Weddings, the couple performed their own version of a tea ceremony while exchanging their vows. Veronica and Matt took turns in adding ingredients such as “Laughter”, “Acceptance” and “True Love” to their tea. Sharing the cup and partaking in their alchemy of love, the newlyweds sipped the tea to proclaim their commitment to each other.

Surrounded by family and friends, Veronica and Matt Ficner danced and laughed and were truly delighted at having shared this special chapter in their lives with the people who mattered most to them.

Quoting Doctor Who, the couple wanted to share this message “ We’re all stories in the end. Just make it a good one!” With that, Matt and Veronica thank you for letting them share their story with you.

I love designing steampunk floral arrangements. Look for my work at the 2014 flower and garden show in Seattle, WA. I'll be competing in floral arrangement category. Also at the evergreen state fair in Monroe WA. Just trying to show people how amazing steampunk fashion is and how fun it is to work with. Ps I'm not a steampunk diva, more of an artistic florist geek.
