And First Up Is...

Our first contribution from a member to the Steampunk Canada community comes from poet and author Halli Lilburn.

She has just released Ballad of the Sea Lion Woman. It is a book of epic steampunk poetry both in ballad and free-verse. Reinvented folktales full of symbolism and adventure.

She shares with us one of her poems from the collection:

Gatsby
With a reputation based on haberdashery
But ruined not by deceit or infidelity, but by anger and honesty.
I’ll be honest with you
Your circus act was quite convincing
Like a glistening laboratory of incurable diseases
Your intentions overzealous
Like a pink pin-striped suit and fireworks.
A boiler over-fueled and under-vented
Bursts rivets.
Smack one down, another shoots out
A penny whistle hiss and xylophone ting
Ricochets off the copper vat and right through your steaming heart.
