My husband and I are fairly new to Steampunk and were wondering if there were any local groups in the Kingston, Trenton or Belleville area. Ottawa or Toronto is a bit too far to go for meetings.

I'm part of the group out of Durham Region, but that's really not a whole lot closer.

we're still muddling through the "How often" lol.  The group is fairly new.  We're working on a few events for the spring/summer season, photo shoots, pub nights, that sort of malarky.

Most times, meetings occur anywhere in Durham Region, more often east Whitby or Oshawa proper.  We've done High Tea in Brooklin (north of Whitby) as well.

*waves* Howdy I don't think there are any groups, but you could always start one. I would love to be part of a Kingston Steampunk group!

Definitely go ahead and start one. You'll be amazed at the number of people just waiting for someone to do that. It's as simple as picking a favourite pub and asking people who are interested to come out for a pint (or tea).

That's what I was thinking. The perfect place (I think) in Kingston would be the pub that use to be Sir John A MacDonald's law office. :D

Or meet under the last gas lamp (if it's still there).

There was a pub called Last Gas Lamp?

No, a real working gas lamp (see for ex. this photo of it by Paul Wash):

Mind you, you'd probably want to move on to a pub afterwards, rather than standing under the gas lamp for hours. I think the Pilot House pub is a few blocks away.

I think I remember hearing a news story about that lamp, but I could be mistaken. Yes, meeting in a pub would be better. I think people would get the wrong idea if we were to meet by a lamp. They might think we're....up to something. :D
